It Must Begin from Writing

           I’m an super reader omnivore, I read many kind of books. No discrimination of it. I read as many as I can read. The most is novel and biography genre.  Moreover, I love writing too.  I write and post it  in my own blog, sometimes few short stories, draft of novels that seems like will never finish because I have many ideas and not consistent to keep the story up, pages of poetries, opinions which was have been published twice in local teen magazines Bogor, features, making Islamic journals and regularly write daily diaries.

But, yesterday when I was attending the general lecturer about 'Reading and Writing Academic' and he asked us how many pages do you think you have read in a week? How many hours did you spend your time to read books in a day? How many pages do you think you have written the past week? That question was like a slap on my face.   A hard slap enough.

            Yah, because when I tried to remember what I have read in this few days I did not found any books, then I tried to remember more, back to this few months. And, the bad was I did not reading many books in this few months, did not write any single pages of any stories, features, poems, blog even diary. Afterwards, I realized how silly of me, how nonsense of me, person who confess she loves reading and writing very much but do not do both of them most.

            That meeting was really remind me to do it more and plan to read and write more. Like the unknown author ever said: "Want to become a better basketball player? Then practice.
Want to become a better guitar player? Then practice. And guess what, if you want to become a better reader? Then read for pleasure (i.e. practice)."

            Well, when we talk about reading and writing. I have another idea about that. For long time period, I loved to read many books but I did not write much. Since, I tried to write much, naturally I began to read many books more than before.

Then, I summarize my own theory how to make someone love to read more just make them write first. Because, although when we have to write simple things, we must read books first, look for the examples how the paragraph is growing, need to observe and cetera.

 I mean, to write, people need to read some books those are relating to the writing theme. And the opposite, often when people read books, most of them do not think to write after they finished.  I really agree with John Locke quote, reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is writing and thinking that makes what we read ours. 

            Like many social theories those are conditionally, sometimes this is not suitable to all cases.  It was my opinion. Feel free to take it or leave it. Just make how the best way to grab our own strategy to be great reader and writer.
